    Hi all,
Bought vag-com "OBD 11 CAN USB" cable and vag-com software from ebay. worked ok for a while then laptop wouldn't recognise the cable. tried re-installing software/drivers - no joy. seller exchanged cable and the new one worked again.
6 months later - same problem, wont recognise cable. I only used it a few days ago and it was fine, went to use it last night - no joy.
Anyone experienced this with there cable?

What interface type did VAG-COM recognize when performing Options > Test?
What version of VAG-COM are you using?

    Hi, Thanks for reply,
Was using ver.704.1 that it came with. it work fine for a while but now when I plug in vag-com cable it come up with unrecognised USB device. try to reinstall the drivers, instructions say to direct driver installer to the c:\ross tech\vagcom folder but it doesn't find them. tried uninstalling & reinstalling vagcom - no joy.
tried new beta version - no joy.
Normally when cable is plugged in it says "found new hardware, ross tech USB interface" (or something like that) now it comes up with "unidentified USB device found" but won't recognise it, even with drivers installed.

From whom did you buy your VAG-COM system? It sounds very much like you are using an illegitimate copy and not a genuine product.

Certainly where ebay is involved it does open the way for "non-ligitimate" products.
    false ecomomy!

For the record, Genuine Ross-Tech product is not permitted to be sold on eBay. Any eBay seller claiming compatibility with Version 704.1 is illegitimate. Only Ross-Tech and our authorized agents are permitted to distribute version 704 devices.

Sometimes mine changes the COM port.

Go to device manager and set the port to 1, 2, 3 or 4 and then the same in VAG COM.
    Just another B7 Estate

No. You can sell your interface any place you would like to sell it. What I am saying is that no seller on eBay is authorized to sell an interface with a copy of VAG-COM. No authorized distributor is permitted to sell on eBay. There are people selling on eBay who have made illegal copies of our product. We do take action against those parties when we can.

So, if you buy from eBay, buyer beware.

If you choose to sell your interface on eBay, please make sure you tell your buyer the whole story. If you are selling a dongle style interface and the party wants tech support and so on from Ross-Tech, they will have to buy a license from us. A license is not transferable from one party to another.
