Got a Mk3 GTi and the radiator fan has decided to stop working. Can't isolate the fault nor can i recall when it last worked!

I've changed the temp sensor and the fan switch in the radiator, and also checked the fuse, which seems ok.

Has anyone had this fault or know if there is a relay which controls the fan which could be dead???????

Any advice would be appreciated, Cheers!

I think from other posts if you've changed the switch then the fan is the next change...according to Haynes it is a marvellous job which the bumper and radiator have to come out b4 you can get to the fan...I'm just about to start this myself and am still hoping someone can tell me there is a much easier wa about it (particularly hacked off as not long flushed refilled and bled the coolant system not difficult but a pain in the a$%e).

Forgot to mention that!!! i tried testing the fan, and it worked fine on both fast and slow speed. The rads been bled since the fan switch was changed and still nothing. Both top and bottom pipes are getting hot and the heater's blowing warm in the car. Waterpump has relatively recently been changed. Cheers for that though!

If the fan works with the plug bridged out and the top and bottom hoses get hot then the only explanation is a faulty fan switch.

Just to let anyone know, incase they have the same problem, i have fixed the problem. There was no live feed to the faan switch. Traced the wire back to the fusebox. Just before it enters the bulk head in the engine bay, The wire had been rubbing against the manifold breather over the years and haad arked!
The fun i had replacing that yesterday! She's all good now though!

    Thaanks people!

So you didn’t test the fan by bridging out the switch plug contacts? It would have saved you a lot of time.
