worx with my N82, just doesn't have the redial feature as far as i can work out.

as for radio removal tools, just cut up an old credit card into strips the same size as the aperture, then round taper off 1 end of each

complete glovebox comes out in 5 screws making workspace and access much easier.

button located to the right of gearbox

fitted mine in less than an hour

    Cheers for that..

How did you go about routing the wire for the mic?

im hoping the "mute" lead will already be installed from the old kit.. but i will know more once i have pulled it out..

PS... Do you know if you add to re-enter your radio code after removing?? - cant find my hand book... think its in the loft somewhere!

    Cheers

yeah, re-code was necessary as far as i remember.

Mic was routed up the leftside a-pillar, then inside the roof lining and fed through the upper console that houses the courtesy lights. that's the hardest part of the job!!!! luckily i got a very bent tipped screwdriver that aids "pushing" the wire behind the rubber seals

was handy for hardwiring the satnav and road angel in central dash location.

personally i hate trailing cables, they annoy me

    Right...

Took the best part of 4 hours to fit from start to finsh..!! lol...

Had a few issues to start with as the chap gave me the wrong radio tools to remove it,

    anyway... here we go....

First of all took the Radio and climate control unit out to assess what was behind the dash...

Look at the back of the radio it would appear that the kit which was installed from new was a Nokia car kit which made things a lot easier...

After following the wires to behind the glove box it was time to remove the glove box and see what is behind, (3 screws inside the glove box at the top and 2 on the outside of the glove box)

Removed side dash panel and pillar door trim so i was able to see what was going on...

After looking around i found the existing Nokia car kit still wired up apart from the cradle lead had been chopped...

Removed the old Nokia control box to find that the existing wiring will work with the new kit if i remove the existing DC plug and connect the new one..

As i didnt want to "butcher" the wiring loom which came with the New kit i just joined the end of the old kit to the end of the new kit and just coiled / taped the new wiring up..

LUCKILY -- The kit before already had a live feed from the battery installed, followed RED wire into the engine bay to find it disconnected and hiding under the battery tray..

As the live feed had already been cut with a decent amount of spare slack i was able to connect this back to the battery after a quick visit back to Halford for a "ring" connector to attached to the battery terminal.. (this will make you laugh.. When i explained to the lad in Halford want i required he showed me a crocodile clip!!)

Got the live to the battery and tested this in the car to ensure there was power with my meter.. (had a few issues thing it was not live due to a break, but that was down to not getting a decent earth, (always use a non painted surface! - ie, door catch!)

I then managed to get power into the new NOKIA control unit and this was confirmed by an LED on the hands free remote..

I connected up the existing SPEAKER lead hoping that this was going to be already connected upto the car speakers.... tested it and no... no sound...

After routing around and "freeing" the existing speaker lead i found that that had been cut.. looks like it was cut when the old speaker was removed. (bit of a downer...!)

I then traced the existing MIC lead up the A pillar, upto the roof lining to just in front of the center roof lighting pack.. it appeared that the MIC had just been cut off and the wire just pushed into the roof lining..

I removed the center sun visor to produce a bit of "slack" so i could look into the roof lining to see not much really!..

I then removed the center lighting unit.. (to do this.. remove the large clear plastic lens, this can be down be hand, get you nail behind it from rear to front and pull down slowly..)

Once off i was able to remove the plastic trim,.... removed 2 screws next to the reading lights and was able to pull the full trim out of the roof lining..

When removing the trim i noticed that there is already 3 microphones present which are OEM fitted... ( SEE PICTURES BELOW)

As i didnt want to be able to view the Mic, i decided that the best place to put it is up in the trim where one of the existing OEM Mic's are fitted, facing down through the "vented" section on the trim..

    Back to the speaker..

After looking in the passenger foot well i noticed that there was one screw hole where the previous speak was mounted and decided that this was the best place to fit mine..

Fitted the speaker and tested........ All worked perfect..... (at this stage the other half came out for a look and said she hoped i knew how to put the car back together!! as you can imagine it looks a bit of a mess wiring everywhere and trim hanging down!!

After testing out and leaving the car to run for around 10 minutes while i was just checking to ensure all the wiring was OK i then started to fit things back together... Nothing really to report... just a reverse of what i did!

Then mounted the Nokia controller next to the climate control, routed the wire from under the climate control the the right hand side, inner side panel with hardly any wire showing. (around 10mm)

-- PS.. A have wired this up to the Ignition "blue" wire to the head unit, and also fitted the MUTE "YELLOW" wire to the head unit.

All fitted and ready to talk!!!

    Below are a few photos..

Below is the old kit which was installed..

    Behind the Radio...

Radio and climate control.. - Once the radio is out.. The climate control just pulls out..

The center roof lighting with a bit of trim removed..

Roof trim OEM mic's - follow the White wire to the additional 2 Mic's... (sorry poor quality photo..)

Picture of the OEM Mic's which were removed to make way for the new Mic so it could be fitted in the roof light trim..

The roof light trim.. Where you can see the "vents" on the trim.. i have fitted my Mic in there..

Nokia Control button.. -- This photo was taken this evening in the dark, hence all the marks with the flash!!

To be honest, I have enjoyed fitting this as it was something i have never done before!!!

RIGHT --- my next question... LOL... Whats involved getting this kit to work using the front 2 speakers?? - (im not sure i will bother as yet... but it would be good to know!)

    Thanks for all your advice,

    Cheers

    Rick

    glad you had fun

i've done 4 or 5 of these now, 2 in ibiza's, 1 in my 406 (professionally fitted but i changed the original kit for the bluetooth 1), then last in the A4.

i've always used "autoleads" harness. they are about £35, but replaces the standard loom and external speaker plugging straight into the stereo loom with a kind of "piggyback"

stereo mutes the front and cuts out the sub, you can choose from OE stereo how much volume comes out and wether you want left, right or both front speaker output.

guess that why it took you longer than mine to fit. think i was just under the hour from start to finish, but it's certainly worth the £35

the only downside is with the stereo working without ignition off this means the ignition feed to the kit doesn't activate so there is no "auto-connect" just means i have to press the bluetooth button each time i want to connect.

least it means the missus can connect her phone each time too

    Morning Stu..

Any chance you can provide me with a link to this loom or a part number of some sort?

I would like the idea of it coming out of the speakers...

ALSO... got to help my mate fit on now!

    Morning

had a bit of a late night so i only just got up ( such shame on a nice day!!)

i got mine from Carphone warehouse, depending on where you live, your nearest shop will be able to direct you to your nearest fitting centre and they will be able to order for you.

it simply plugs straight into where you unplug the steeo leads from, and then the stereo lead plugs in the back of it.

fortunately on the A4, there is loads of room, i got the module located behind the glovebox, and all the cabling folded down the side of the climate unit, as well as the control module etc for the i-pod control

hope there enough space on my next one

    ALL>..

I have just been advised tha tthe part above is not 3 mic's... the one on the end of the white wire is... HOWEVER the other 2 are heat sensors for the auto air con...

The aircon has been working better than ever today... but i guess thats because its just pumping air out @ 18'c..!!

I best refit this in the morning!! LOL!!
