1997 Sharan TDI-Which Engine?

Bit of a newbie question really, my 1997 P sharan has the 1.9tdi engine fitted--the numbers i can find in the handbook are 7mvv038146--is my engine the 90 or 110bhp engine?

The engine type will give you the information, my 99 sharan has a white sticker on the back tail gate when open by the closing mechanism. This has the engine type on it (81KW 1.9ltr. / AFN,AVG and 66/81KW 1.9ltr. / 1Z,AHU,AFN, AVG and 66KW 1.9ltr / ANU).

Otherwise look in the manual for the car type (mine is a 7M8288) and list the engine type which will also give you the info on it.

The other place is on top of the timing belt cover is the engine type but it is hard to look at it has been cleaned or covered in crap.

Another way is to go to your local VW dealer with the VIN number and they can tell you which engine you have.

so would you say the afn is 110bhp as the cam cover has no identifying stickers neither are there any around the car?

Yes, the AFN is 110PS, 81Kw.
