Hi guys. Im new here so please bare with me .

Just bought my Golf mk5 last week (very happy). That same day i went and bought a dvd unit to replace the stock RCD 300.

I think im over my head a bit on instaling it though. Removing the stock stereo is ok thanks to golfmk5gttdi's how to guide 'cheers'

but when i had a look at the cables provided i realized that i might have to conect up wires myself (bad). electrics are not realy my thing being an amatuer. what can i expect when i go to fit this unit

Any information is good, or any links to good threads

Can anybody please help. much appriciated

The wiring loom that came with the head unit will almost certainly have and ISO standard plug on it. You will need to buy a VW to ISO adaptor lead. That will get it hooked into the power and speakers. In the photo it looks like it comes with phono leads - these will either be to connect another item to view on the screen, or as an aux output to view the DVDs on a second display. Prob not need initially.

I've heard stories about some ebay fascia's not being the right shape. Is this much of a worry or are they perfectly fine?
Also, if you don't trust ebay you can get a replacement fascia from the parts department of a VW dealer.

i ordered a ford focus fascia from ebay a couple of months ago for my mate. Went to fit it and noticed it was a bit rough around the edges and also down the cubby holder from the manufacturing process. Not a huge deal for him but never in my car. My experiences have thought me never go for cheap in ebay. Just spend the extra 10 quid in the local shop.

bought an autoleads fascia. a good snug fit but had to file down the inside where the stereo fits in. but that could be my stereo in general , might be different for other models, but still inconvenient
