    Hi

    I have just purchased an A4 2.5tdi Quattro 1998.

Is this the 150bhp or 180bhp model.

What is the frequency of the timing belt.

    Thanks

I think the older ones are 150 bhp, at least I hope so, cos my one certainly doesn't feel like 180 .

Can't help with the frequency question though, sorry.

Hi, 98 a4 2.5 tdi are 150 Bhp and if you dont have a proof when the cambelt its been done, i suggest you do it ASAP. This will set you over 2000 pounds if it breaks ! I can replace the belts for you for about half price of what dealers charge ! I fit Contitech cambelt kits, new uprated Meyle water pumps, new pump belt and tensioner, Contitech aux. and AC belts. You also get a fresh coolant fill and a diagnostic check, all from 300 quid fitted !

    Thanks for that.

Your offer of a new timing belt is tempting. Problem is I am in Fife.

For info the car has a full Audi service history (Camerons Perth) till 2005. The book is stamped 77K on June 03 with a new timing belt shown as been fitted.

Hi, took my 99 2.5 TDi to an independant service centre in 2006 for an oil service, with the mileage on 45,000, they said cam belt mileage now 60,000 mls or 4 years whichever comes, first. Did not have work done but it worried me as car 7 years old but service book for 2.5 TDi says 80,000 mls so well under for mileage. In 2007 our local Audi dealer offered cam belt changes on E Bay at reduced price, so had work done plus all belts and water pump, came to just under £600 with warranty for 2 years. I requested the old belts for examination and found them to be in very good condition. A relative of mine took his 1.9 TDi PD A4 for cambelt at 59,000 miles and 5 years old and belt was very worn. I believe the PD engines have invoked a lot of the cam belt problems with the PD system giving the cam belt a lot more work to do.
