Im looking to do the very same thing mate. Just bought a second hand mk 5 and only realised it aint got no rear speakers. Is it just a matter of installing speakers behind door card. Is the wiring all there. Is there inputs on back of head unit for two more spaekers

Ive got a 2005 Mk5 also with no speakers in the rear - and am looking at fitting some I had the head unit out a few months back to fit a Ipod adaptor and noticed the wiring for the rear speakers is connected to the HEad unit and from what Ive seen of the wiring in the front doors I suspect the cabeling goes all the way to the rear doors and just needs to have the speaker plugged in.

    Hope thats of use.

just check out a how to on removing the door trim before you hook in!!

Mmm, yes. Just took the rear door card off yesterday without any damage amazingly and I aint got no wiring loom there for the speakers. Are you sure saabman that those connections you had in the back of your head unit were for the rear speakers and if so Im wondering how far back they go

    Bugger

    Now you've got me!

Maybe I just saw where the wires went and have got all confused.

My car is in getting some work done on it ( the dealer replaced a part and broke something else in the process) wont get it back until next week. When I do Ill get back into the dash and have a look again.

I've no need to do it, but I can pretty much guarantee that the cables connected to the headunit terminate at the car body and aren't continued at the loom connection between the door/body, which means you'll prob have to buy/source the corresponding door loom.

Or just buy some speaker cable from Halfords and install it yourself. There won't be anything special about the speaker cable used by VW.
