    Hello all,

I've recently become the proud owner of a 2001 VW Passat 130 Comfortline 1.9 TDI. I've found the forum through an internet search and decided to join. Still have to read through all the previous posts. I'm sure there's plenty of useful information.

Just wanted to say hello and that my Passat is faster than my previous car, a BMW 523!!!

    Hi kkelly,
Welcome to the forum. The Passat is fun to drive. I live in the Netherlands. When I feel the need for speed I drive 60 km to Germany to get on the Autobahn. Passats are in the left lane group of fast cars(150-190 km/h). You do have to watch out for those exotics (the ones you look at and say "What the heck was that thing??" and high end Mercedes and Bimmers though.

    cheers,
    Erico

    K,

Hows it going? Welcome to the forum. It's a super site for all sorts of different reasons but there is one small downside, nearly all the prices for parts or services are, naturally enough, in sterling. Us poor culchies can only dream of getting a timimg belt changed for £250 approx at a main dealer (about €650 at home).

Where abouts in Ireland are you?

I've a 2001 130 brake TDI, super car, so enjoy, just mind the speed cams.

    Pat

Cars last twice as long if only driven every other day.

Hi Pat, I'm in the Kildare area. The Passat I bought has 150k on it and I was wondering when the timing belt be due again. I assume around 180k?

That would be about right, although some people would change them a bit sooner (Better safe than sorry). Time to start saving for it now I guess.

Mine is now at 117k and am just about to get it done.

I'm originally from Kildare myself, outside Newbridge, what happened in Croke Park last week
