I've bought a replacement key fob off ebay for my Passat and I can get it reprogrammed but don't know where I can get the blank key cut. Has anyone had one done and where did you get it done? Also heard there is someone on ebay who does them, again anyone used them?

I bought one off Ebay got it cut ( £12.50, local cobblers/key cutters/house sign shop) tried to register it with the immobiliser but after much research discovered it had a locked transponder. I managed to get some transponders from the far east and replaced the one in the key. I had a lot of fun getting my SKC out of the cluster and even more trying to get all the keys working.
Bin it and get a specialist car locksmith to do you one, maybe £45 is worth your sanity, unless you like a challenge!

Many thanks for your offer. I gave up in the end with messing about with ebay keys and went to the dealer, brand new fob all programmed and cut etc for £129.

Ebay would have cost me £35 for a 2nd hand key fob with new blade, then £35 at the dealers to programme and cut but with the risk it wouldn't work as they have said some 2nd hand keys reprogramme and some don't so could be throwing £65 away if it doesn't work. Decided to cough up for the dealers new key.

I had my keys stolen so I am using the plastic key. Can anyone tell me - if I get a new key cut and use it in the ignition with the plastic key [ie +transponder] on the key ring, will the new key work??
Reason -Have you ever fried turning the plastic key in the ignition? Not easy.

PS how to I find what frequency key I need if I go the ebay route.

Isnt that like saying you will damage your transistor radio by tuning to Radio Luxumburg?
The key I bought off Ebay had a locked transponder (only applies to Immo 3 though, earlier versions would work with it, I think) so I ordered a few off the net and drilled and fitted one, used VagTacho to read the SKC, now works a treat!

If you wish to trade on VWAF you'll need to discuss this with the site owner, Stuart.

Until then, please refrain from peddling your wares
