    Hi

I'm new to this site and new to biodiesel, if anyone can help please?!!

I have a VW golf mk4 tdi 130, 2002 model with 130k on clock, and have read a lot of sites etc on biodiesel recently and it seems from reading that my car will be ok, have even read the manual from the car and VW agree that the car can run on RME which i guess is Biodiesel.

I have now been running the car for around 3 weeks on biodiesel and haven't seen any loss on power and just a small drop on fuel consumption. So far have covered around 600 miles.

I have though noticed that the car is a lot more smoky than it was before in the mornings. It was smoky before but more so now, but it is clearer smoke, is this normal?

I have also in the last few days had on three occassions suffered with re-starting the car when the engine is hot. Not all the time though. Never happened before using Bio. Has taken a good few turns for the engine to fireup and then its fine, any ideas, will this cause any damage?

cheers for any help or advise anyone can offer!!

Have a read of this thread https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...ad.php?t=14516

There are other threads regarding running on biodiesel.

Do a search for biodiesel on the forum.

    Hi

I've been running on bio on and off for the last year with various mixes etc. I agree with the slower start and a bit more smoke on cold mornings. I have altered the glow time but haven't had chance to see if that has affected it as the weather is not that cold at the moment.
I have also suffered from a reluctance to re-start a warm engine on a hot day if it's been switched off for a couple of mins. It turns for ages and takes several goes before it starts, I haven't solved that one yet.
Other than that power is slightly down as is fuel consumption so IMO bio needs to be at least 10% cheaper to make it worth while

Just remember to replace the fuel filter more often when running biodiesel.
