Hi, I've just bought an SE 2.0 TDi DSG Auto, and so far I'm very pleased with it.
In the manual it mentions playing MP3s, but when I put in a disc with just MP3s on it, it says 'disc error'. Is there a trick to getting them to work, or does my 06 reg not play MP3s.

    Thanks chaps!

My March 07 Passat has an RCD500 which does play mp3 CDs. There is an "mp3" logo printed near the slot for the CDs - does yours have this logo?

do you have the Ipod prep?

If so, this would mean that you don't have the MP3 compatible stereo (annoying I know ...)

Depends on the age of the car / stereo.

My '08 model-year Passat has a bog-standard RCD300, with MP3 logo, and I got the dealer to fit the iPod connection. I can confirm that the CD player will still play MP3 CDs as well as Audio CDs, and the iPod connection works too.

...Although perhaps there's a difference between Dealer-fit VW iPod Prep and Factory Fit VW iPod Prep?...

it has no mp3 logo, nor an ipod prep, nor an aux plugin. Looks like I'll have to rough it then.
    Thanks for the replies fellas

    Nope....hold on...don't lose heart!

Reduce the voltage to the RCD300, so that the discs spin slower..so the tracks last longer!
Another solution would be to crop your tracks to a minute tops..therefore you'll be able to get (about) 3 times the amount of tracks than what you would on a standard audio CD.

That's a great idea, I don't know why nobody has thought of it until now.
DaveNN, if I get the disc spinning really slow, AND reduce the tracks to say, 10 seconds each, it could rival blu-ray! This time next year we could be millionaires mate!
