    Hi,

I've got a Canbus adapter for the back of my stereo to enable an amplifier to turn on and off when the ignition is on.

Now, whilst sat in the car waiting for a colleauge, listening to some German industrial Hardcore Techno, I noticed that my sub wasn't booming.

The Key was in the Accessory position, so I presumed it should be on... opened my door and looked in the boot...

The power was on and the sub kicked in...

Then about 40 seconds later it turned off again...

Opened my door and it turned on!!!

It seems that whenever I do something in the car, like open a car, or operate the windows, the canbus adapter turnes the ignition feed on for a minute at a time.

To get it to remain on permanently, I have to put the key into ignition mode, which I guess can't be good for the glow plugs, coil, etc...

    Any thoughts?

I'm just a bit worried that when I get my new Kenwood DVD unit, i'm not going to be able to watch a DVD whilst parked up... or at least not for more than a minute...

Seriously though, I was going to ask how easy it would be to be able to fit a Sub in a Passat - I'd like something discreet as I rather like the boot space (a week old baby means you need it all)...

If you have - have you got any photos?

Well, i used to have a Golf estate Mk4 with TWO JL Audio W4 Subs... and one was in a small wedge style box that sat normally in the boot, and the other (as I too needed the space for work) I made out of Lots of intricately siliconed together pieces of birch plywood that sat inside the left hand compartment in the boot... it didn't intrude too much into the boot space, and allowed the spare wheel to be accessed with ease.

It meant that I could simply unplug my wedge box sub and utilise the whole boot space.

Also, in the Golf, I Had all my Sat nav / dvd / cd changer / DAB unit / 5.1 suround decoder, and amplifer under the boot in this spare wheel space...

But now I have my Passat and having only had it three months, and as i'm still waiting for the new Kenwood DVD / Satnav Head unit to arrive, I've yet to get too far with my sound system.

I have the dynaudio speakers, and only needed a little extra low frequency, so just "Temporarily" put the one wedge box sub in and the amp inside the boot, not yet underneath... although the space wit the spare wheel isn't that great, but i'm sure I can get my amp in there.

As for the side boot pockets where I had my other sub in the Golf, these pockets are FAR larger, therefore I feel some proper Fiberglass work coming into play when I get round to it.

Maybe i'll make a few moulds at the same time and sell them to anyone else wanting a 12" sub.

I have an early photo of my Golf, but none yet of my passat, but will document it fully once I get going... including the center speaker mounting underneath the climate control grille on the windscreen dashboard.

Hi got my can bus adapter today (CTAVGCAN001) from caraudiosecurity.com. I thought it would be a straight swap but there are what appears to be other terminals which might need connecting.

I have copied a picture of it here:-

Can you tell me please what the connects 2 block is for with the hologram on it. and also what the four connectors with the red connectors are for. The colour of the wires going to these connectors arered, orange, green and grey. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

Certainly, that box with the hologram, does all the computing as to what signal the canbus is sending, and then it converts it to the red/orange/green and grey cables.

Red is switched power (Ignition) so take this to the ignition feed of your H/U.
    Orange is the illumination.
    Green is the speed pulse.
    Grey is the reverse send.

Thanks very much for your help djsky.

The black box has an input either side. One of the plugs from the adaptor fits in the one end, does anything plug into the other side.

    Cheers

Ah yes, don't worry about the other side. It's just for a different make of canbus wiring loom... volvo/scania i think. Just that the same box does both, so it's cheaper for Connects2 to mass produce the one box, but ship it with the varying adapter looms.
