    Hi Folks,

today my car died without any warning (stupid 55 2.0 Tdi)

There was no problem and no warning light. I was coming from work and just near my home the car started missing for couples of minutes and then just stopped. There was only bettry light on that time. Luckiliy there was no car behind.

I tried to turn on the engine but did not work. opened the bonnet to see any smoke etc. Nothing i can see.

I called the recovery. The recovery guy tried to start but nothing happened. He suggested it could be coil problem or fuel pump!!! He could not fix so he droped me home and took my car to garage. Now garage is closed (not VW dealer) so I dont know what they will find tommorow. They did the full service lass than 3 weeks ago.

Now I am sitting here wondering what could be the problem? Is this a sigh of fuel pump failure or something else?

Secondly, i called the dogy car dealer whom i bought the car. I bought car on 26th of March so just over one month. He said they would not give me any extra warranty.Normally they give up to one month only. The car dealer is in Bradford so I cant take my car straight there, so I have to take to this local garage. If there is any major fault then will i be able to recover costs from him? what are my rights?

Please advise i am really Pi**ed!!

£170 plus fitting which is about an hour. They may still be on back order through, a few have come through in recent days but they are still in short supply.

As you have no warranty, legally you cannot claim but I have heard of VW funding this repair anyway in good faith as it is a known problem.
Its worth a try, good luck

The sale of goods act will help you out here - as you've had the car for such a short period of time, then the seller has to underwrite a reasonable warranty period - I think the time period is 3 months. If the car was a knackered old Fiesta, then that would be different.

Given that the fault happened so quickly, the fault clearly existed at time of purchase, then you should be covered in the eyes of the law.

    These links:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/x-ray/x_g...car1-1-6.shtml
    Will help.

(If you got it on finance, this will help - http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/x-ray/x_g...car1-1-8.shtml)

I'd approach VW first to see if they'll offer goodwill - They might as mentioned above if the car has FVWSH....

If no-one helps, I'd consider talking to trading standards as they are very helpful.

And yes, I've done all this before - but the nay-saying trader caved as soon as I formally involved trading standards.

Good luck and I hope it's sorted quickly.

Thanks James for such a detailed advice. I have sent the car to garage and now waiting from them to confirm the problem. If its fuel pump then I will try to get replancement car from dealer and also will try VW as well.

Look to see if the car can be rejected under the same Sales of Goods act if you really get no joy....

Just update folks, Worst case scenioro confirmed. It is that bloody fuel pump failure. I spoke with VW customer care and told that I have done more than 60K but i want this to be done under warranty. The lady checked with some one and said Yes we will do this. take the car to your local VW dealer.

I am trying to book the sevice now with local dealer. The garage told me that there are over 2000 orders for this part (fuel pump) and people are waiting since Xmas. I dont know how long they will do to fix.

Will VW give me like to like car as replacement as well or i have to arrange that on my own? I can not wait for 2-3 months without car?

Is it better I give car to VW or return to dealer whom i bought. He is like 40 miles from me so obviously will incurr me recovery costs as well.

I am trying to call that dogy dealer whom i bought the car but he is not returning my calls.
