Today I wound my window down a couple of inches as it was a little hot inside the car. When I came to wind it back up again the window nearly popped out from the runners. After several attempts to get the window to fit again I had to pull it up by hand. Is this an easy fix or am am looking at a new window winder assembly?

It's possible that it has worked loose from the clamps that hold it. To check, remove the door cover (2 T20 hex screws at the bottom, and 3 big ones behind the door handle with the window switches in). There will be two black disks in the metal panel - remove these, re-connect the window switch and move the mechanism until toy can see two bolts through the holes. These should clamp on to the bottom of the glass, and if they aren't holding it, then that could cause the problem. If that isn't it, then you will probably have to replce the whole panel which has the mechanism on the back. I've done it, but it is fiddly.

    Hope that this helps

You can also buy a regulator kit for about £40'ish from the likes of GSF or Euro car parts.

What happens is the winder cable frays and jams up in the pulleys, very annoying.

As above a fiddle to fix and with the kit you need to drill out the pot rivets to remove the old mechanism from the inner panel.

Don't confuse this with the similar problem that happens on MK4 Golfs / Boroas whereby the regulator clips on the meachanism actually snap.
