Having read through the posts on the Forum, I wonder what the consensus of opinion is on locking wheel bolts. Are they really worthwhile?

With removal devices for use when the keys have been lost readily available cheaply from Halfords and other outlets, what is the value of fitting locking bolts in the first place? Surely thieves have these devices just as they have wrenches.

I am just wondering whether to bother with locking bolts. I only have standard 16" wheels fitted with 215 x 55 Michelins, but I do park my car in some pretty remote places while hill walking and I'd be gutted to get back to my car to find it without its wheels. It would make getting home difficult as well!

    Any thoughts?

    hello there mate!
just thought id say that i work for a company called performance wheels
    www.keiracing.com
we do some "tuner style" locking bolts that come with a special key for fitting....and i just thought i would also say that any deterent from scumbags taking your wheels has to be worth it in my opinion?
i could get some locks for you and get them to you within 2 days of ordering if you decide to go through with them? private msg me if you would like any further help?

I would always fit locking bolts, for possible insurance reasons. Also the for the sheer inconvenience it would cause.

Thanks for the comments. I'll give this some thought. Fitting them would at least make a quick theft less likely.

A determined thief will be able to remove any wheel bolt.

I think the deterrent is mainly the time & noise it would take to remove them.

I have had to remove many many sets of locking bolts with no key, and the most effective tool i found was a big hammer and a strong socket set. lol.
