Well today I'm going to change the oil and filter in my passat tdi but before I do I thought I'd just ask the question is there anything I need to be careful of?
Does anyone know how the top engine cover comes off, and where the filter holder is located?.

Any help would be appreciated. Cheers

If you cannot see how the top cover comes off then maybe you should not risk changing the oil.

There are 3 washer-nuts hidden under 3 round covers (covers are about 1 inch diameter and have a small cut out to get a screwdriver under to flip them out). Don't forget to remove the dipstick before removing the engine cover.

Vroooom, you dont say which year your passat is, If its a 1999ish then the oil filter is on the right under the fuel filter. Engibe Cover is held on by 2 nuts on this year. you don't have to remove the dipstick.

    Hope this helps

Thanks for your help everyone, I must come clean and admit that I did pop off the cover caps on the engine cover and just glanced at what I thought would be either a screw or nut holding the cover in place, I need to start wearing my galsses as I thought it was a special fastener holding the cover on and thefore posted the question of how to get it off DoooooOOOh
Puting that aside I have since remover the cover and the skid tray under the car and changed the oil.

    Thanks again for your help
