steering rack

hi everyone , well my passat just failed its mot .
the vw agent says it needs a new steering rack because the rubber boot is full of oil and it must be leeking ?.
anyway they want £850 to change the rack, which i think is way toooooooo much , has anyone out there any idear how much a new rack should cost ?
im going to have another garage look at it in the morning and would like to know im not getting ripped off.

hello again everyone i just had the car re tested again this time im told the rubber boot has split and it will cost £60 to fix with the labour.
mmmmmmmmm well 60 sounds better than 850, it just goes to show that the vw agents were taking the ****.
