    Hi,

I was cleaning the car recently and noticed that below the side underneath all of the car just between the side and before underneath, the metal and paint work looks all very rough ie not like the upper body of the car.

Yep, it's supposed to be like that; it's rubberised paint to protect from stone-chips etc. All vehicles have it.

Not all vehicles have it as my old car a Nissan Almera, the metal & paint work along those parts are of the same qualtiy as the upper body of the car.

I think it's more to do with costs cutting building the car by VW.

It looks really bad when close up.

Ok, well most cars do, every car I've looked at has rubberised paint on the underside of the sills. It isn't used to cut costs, it's to protect the body from chips and corrosion.

It might look bad, but: a) How often do you get underneath your car? b) Rust and corrosion would look a lot worse! And c) how often do you get that close to even notice it?

Stone chip/ anti rust paint. perfectly normal as said above.

Older car did not have this and we used to have to weld sills up all the time
