    hii people iv got a mk4 gt gti and when i go to my car usually if a press the button on the fob from a distance the doors open but its been afew days now i have to go right near the car upto the drivers window and then press the button on the fob to open the car, im not sure if it is the battery in the fob or something else can anyone help

    i think is the battery.

    it does not have enough power to work from far.

    sounds daft but try and open it from your usualy distance by putting the remote to your head ( with the key closed in ). it should open. chances are you battery is going

    are VW like some other cars where they require an imobiliser signal from the keyfob the whole time the engine is on ???

    if so you may find the car might cut out with you if the signal drops

    From my own (limited) experience with remote central locking fobs, replacing the cell does improve the activation range. Further, the cell is the most probable cause, and one of the easiest to eliminate.

    There is a very useful HOW TO available that details how to renew the cell in a key fob, see;

    "How to" change the battery in a key fob

    The 2032 cell is commonly available; most supermarkets for example, will stock them.

    my remote keys for my mk5 golf gt tdi have both decided they no longer want to work apart from either right at the driver window or right in front of the bonnet and i have changed both batteries, anyone have any ideas?

    Open them up and give the circuit boards a good clean - blast of compressed air if you can.
