Just bought my new car from a dealer, (not audi). The garage is quite a distance away from me so they approved a local audi specialist. They are not up holding the 6 months warrenty they sold me the car with so i am going to pay for the repairs and then pursue them for the money. Luckily the credit card company are on my side.

    Anyway the problem is:

The engine emissions warning light appeared on the dash. Had a diagnostic test, which brought up the EGR valve. 1st of all the garage cleaned it out, i took it away and then it came straight back on. They have now changed the EGR valve.

The light has now re appeared. I am getting concerned that it could be a bigger problem.

I have spoken to audi's and they are very helpful!!
They said the car had a retro fit (by audi) air filter fitted by the catalyst???

He advise that i take it into them for them to clean and re-calibrate??

How can he re-calibrate a filter?? Or it could be the lambda probe.

Can anyone shed some light on this matter?
Car drives absolutly perfect, although i think the mpg has got worse since the problem has been on the car.

    Thanks mike

    Hello Mike,

I have replied to your private message, but before reading this thread.

Audi A6 1.9 TDi 04 - May be fitted with a partical filter, its function is to remove and store soot from the exhaust. There is an adaption proceedure for measuring the soot levels and calibration if required. Normally there is no need to calibrate unless the filter is changed. Maybe this was carried out incorrectly or not at all when it was last replaced.

EGR faults do occure due to excessive carbon build up, but make sure all vacuum pipes & connections are in good order and that all related electrical connections are clean & sucure before replacing any parts, it's possible for vacuum leaks to trick the ECU into thinking it needs to open the EGR valve.

I have also had faulty Mass Air Meters triggering off EGR related fault codes. Faulty Mass Air Meters do not generally trigger a fault code of their own, but do cause other faults relative to the intake and combustion process.

I hope this is of use to you.

    Rob
