The boot on my R reg Passat estate will no longer lock. Even if I put the key in the boot lock and turn it, the doors will lock and unlock but not the boot. If I open the boot with the doors locked, the alarm sounds. I suspect that the problem is with the solenoid. Anybody else experienced this? Is the solenoid likely to be the cause? Thanks in advance.

the motor at the boot might be gone. Disconnect the motor from the rest in the boot and it will lock the boot when you turn the key. It wont lock the boot when you turn the key on the doors though.

My solenoid/motor was fully extended when I took it apart after experiencing the same problem. Replaced it for £10 from the ********.
Took the old one apart and found it working fine so put it back togther and it stil works fine out of the car. I am none the wiser why the problem happened in the first place apart from having to adjust the linkage slightly (simple) when the new one was fitted.

Sounded easy, I don't really no what IM looking for, Ive looked both rear left & right for the boot motor, is it in the boot lid it self ?

I found a little square blue box in the drivers side rear boot just in front of the tail light but Its written in german, it could be just the rear lights for all I know.

Im a noob now days, the 70's & 80's was much easier to reapair cars,

the motor is mounted inside the lid and accessible once you remove the lid lining. You will find a plastic plate with various linkages and the rectangular motor mounted to it by two screws. I took the whole thing out but realise now that I could have extracted the motor without doing so. It is a simple changeover and the hardest part is probably getting your fingers behind the lining if it is anything like my estate.
The motor was £10 odd from the ********
