    Hi

I have just bought a VW Bora and have just had it serviced.

Since then the car seems to lose power and does not go fatser than 80mph. Once I get into 4th gear and speed upto about 60mph i feel a slight kick back which in turn i think does not allow me to push past 80mph.

Any advise on what is occuring would be much appreciated.

    Many Thanks

Oh dear. Wish i had a quid for every time ive heard about this!

It can be one or more of a few things.

First thing to do is replace MAF - its the air flow meter and it is on the pipe which connects to the airfilter box. A friend had same symptoms so we swapped MAFs to see if his was a dud and it was (only 38k miles too!)

For me it was the fuse which controls the N75 valve, which is basically like a boost controller, its a vaccum pump controlled by the ecu which moves an actuator rod on the turbo to contorl amount of boost. It could also be a faulty valve, the hose is blocked, or the actuator rod on the turbo being stuck because of a build up of carbon deposit on the turbo vanes.

Or your turbo could be nackered but i really doubt it, the above problems are far far far more common.

Try swapping the MAF if you know someone with the same engine as this is easy and free! If this doesnt solve it, id get the ECU read by a good inpedendant garage, the ******** are a rip off - (told me i needed a new turbo, *****).

Hope thats enough to chew over for now. There are countless posts on this so try a wee bit or searching for more info.

    Alan

Forgot to add - this all started for me when the pipe from intercooler to turbo burst off, again common problem when the clips wear out.

Nothing that is carried out in a normal service would cause something like this i dont think, unless cam belt has been changed and the timing is out but i would have thought that bad timing would be fairly catastrophic!

Thanks for your replys it is much appreciated.

Just thought id mention that i was planning to get the cam belt changed, however one the mechanic had a look he did say that it didnt need changing. so he might have tampered with it.

    What do you think

    Hi

This did occur after the service. He did check the camb belt to see if it needed changing but he siad it was fine. Could him Tampering with the camb belt have caused it.

No mate, the timing belt wouldnt cause this.

Honestly, ive heard of this so many times and experienced it myself - just follow the wee tips further up the thread and youll track the problem down.
