My Golf 1.6 S Estate engine code (AKL) idles high when stationary, I have read threads to boost the idle etc.. but am at a loss to what this means.
But as suggested in a thread by a8 tech to put the rear heated window on when it idles high the idle stabalises and returns to normal, which is great but what does it mean and what is the cause??

Also I have a running problem when the engine is warm! As soon as it reaches 90 degrees optimum running temp its as someone switches a switch and the car losses power especially through the low gears. Could it be the air flow meter?? I have had the thermostat and temp sender changed but still the same!!

Any feedback would be greatly received! Thanks in advance.

hi having the same probs with my mk4 1.6 taking it to vw dealers to get a diagnostic run on it pretty sure its an air leak of some sort as when the engine is warm the pipes expand, will post what the report finds, if it finds anything, also do you get very bad lag if your running at around 1500 rpm in 4th gear when trying to speed up as this is another prob i have?

Have the throttle body cleaned and reset by someone who knows the AKL engine, they can be awkward.
