    Hi all,

My Golf 1.6SE 16 valve year 2001 idles funny. When im stopped and waiting at lights etc the revs will dip really low, sound as if it going to stall but then revs up itself and drops again. This keeps happening when it is below 1000 revs but when i rev my car it drops back down and starts reving and dropping again!

Sorry for this long winded explanation but i dont know how to describe it, does anyone know what is the matter or is it normal, if so any ideas on the cost of it being fixed, where to go and whats wrong etc.

    Thanks All

    Jen

It doesn’t have an idle control valve; it has a motorised throttle body. This will be gummed up with oil and fine dirt and needs removing and carefully cleaning with aerosol carb cleaner and a stiff nylon brush. After refitting, the throttle body will need to be reset to the ECU using diagnostic equipment such as VAG-COM.

If you don't know what you are doing, do not do this. Take it to a garage, the main dealer or a VAG specialist. VAG-COM is diagnostic software.
