I have a Golf 1.6 (77KW/110bhp engine), engine code BCB (?)

Can anyone receommend what grade oil to put in it?

If your car is on long life serviceing then use comma 5w-30 prolife, if it is serviced every year or 10,000 miles then use comma 5w-40 Syner G.

silly question perhaps - how do I tell which service plan the car is on?

Have a look in the service book as when it was last serviced, if it have been serviced by VW ring them up and ask them, what service plan it is on.

If it was on long life serviceing you'd hope that you would have been told when you brought the car, but if you are on longlife and you put standard oil in, i belive the worst that will happen is your service due indicator will come on after a few 100 miles.

Thanks again chaps. I bought the car from a small car dealer, it has FSH but the last one was done by an indie, the others by a main dealer so I can give them a ring and see.

I'll have a look at the service book.

It's also due a cambelt change oh well..................... and 3 tyres.............still I can't complain the price was pretty good.
