Hi hoping someone can give some advice on changing the engine mount thats behind the engine on a 1997 2L 8V gti I have changed the front and gear box side mounts no problems. The haynes manual is as much use a chocolate fire guard!! Do you have to work from underneth or can you remove air intake and work from above? Can the engine be supported by a jack from underneath whilst doing this?

Thought as much. Done the other two and drive has improved 85% but still knocking ( Reduced noise) When driving so looks like another night hugging the engine and donating knuckles in the process!

    Thanks for the reply

hey mate, slow reply lol youve probably done the job by now but yes, you should be able to support the engine under the sump, and be able to reach the mounting from above. i think its just a big bolt straight through from the top, similar to the gearbox mounting on the n/s.

    hope this helped

Changed the engine mount was a tough job but is ok once the car is up in the air. Whilst jacking the car up noticed that the passengers drive shaft has a clicking when turned at the joint where you can split it the Gearbox so looks to be a drive shaft after all at least all engine mounts are new and ruled out.
