Hi. I have a 2001 Passat Tdi estate. The previous owner (it was a company car) had a mount fitted and wired in for a Nokia 6310 phone (a proper Nokia mount). It fits onto a fork pushed into the ventilation outlet in the middle of the dash and a cable disappears under the bottom cover of the dash (drivers side) How much work is required in removing it as I want to replace it with an Ipod adapter that plugs into the ariel feed. Thanks

I've done this, but mine wasn't pushed into the vent. Can you provide a picture and explain exactly which bits you want removing?

Its not so much the bracket - that just pulls out of the vent easily enough - it is the cabling behind the radio. Is a special tool required to get the radio out? Thanks

You can get the radio unit out using VW radio keys (eBay, about £2-3). If the cable feeds in between the radio dash housing and the dashboard, then you can remove the radio dash housing using a torx screwdriver (there are a few steps!).

I'm sure there's a how to guide somewhere on how to do it, otherwise I can try my best to explain.

Can you provide a picture so that we can see exactly where the cabling is going?

    I used this picture http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-AUDI-SEAT-S...QQcmdZViewItem

and cut my own to the same design out of old mobile topup cards which you can get for free at a SAINSBURY'S checkout, although many of the mobile firms seem to be stopping doing them and just have empty leaflets. You don't need to include the slots. Cut the card into strips lengthways at a width that approximates those on the picture, about 8-10mm, then cut a curve at the tip approximating that shown. You will notice the pic shows L TOP and R TOP stamped on the tools.
