    Next question...
What kind of MPG can I expect from a 1997 Tdi Sport?

Improved economy is the main reason that we are looking to replace our V6 Mazda 323 that is returning 32mpg.

The daily commute is 40miles each way on dual carriage way, so a diesel seems to make sense. Rush hour driving so 65-75mph driving if lucky.

    Thanks again
    Alan

32 from your 323 V6 (2.0)? sounds good. We had a 1989 wedge with pop-ups SE 1.6, that only did about 35mpg. I really liked the car mind.
    One German, Two Italian.
    It's a Mercedes Benzzzz though

I have a 99 TDi Sport 110 and usually get around 55 to the Gallon on long trips and at worst 48 to and from work in traffic. It depends how heavy your foot is, if you are very careful you can get 60; that is of course presuming my gauge and computer are correct!

I have a 1997 Passat TDi Sport and the economy is fantastic! Obviously motorway driving offers the best economy (providing you maintain a fairly constant speed and your right foot isn't too heavy!) On a motorway stretch at 70 - 80mph I can get between 55 - 65mpg. Even around town, the lowest I've got is around 48mpg. I suppose it all depends on driving conditions, weight in the car etc. but you'll never be disappointed, gotta be better than 32mpg anyway!

Oh yeah, keep your tyre pressures at what they should be too, this makes a difference as it is a fairly heavy car!

I get about 40 around town, I'm on-call at the local fire station so at times this causes the mpg to drop to around 36 for the odd rapid journey. Motorways tend to be 50 to 60 mpg.

Much better than my 525i which would be lucky to get 23mpg!

Oh yes, I carry a huge weight of kit in the boot, removing that gives 5mpg extra across the board.

PD engines never had the fuel ecconomy of the engines with VE rotary pumps. Also your engine its fairly supped up from the factory so its not the best comparison for fuel ecconomy, i see it more as a compromise between performance and ecconomy ! They still great engines though.

I have a 2002 130 TDI Sports Estate, I get on average approx 40mpg. I have a load up all the time although as I work as a seurity engineer and I have a lot of kit in the car, tools, fold up ladders etc and I tend to have a relatively heavy right foot. I got 52mpg once but the M11 was busy and average speed was about 55 - 60 mph, (stuck behind lorries etc that were overtaking and using both lanes, I hate the M11).
Someone I know has a new Renault diesel and he's getting 55+ mpg, personnally I'd rather suffer the extra fuel consumption rather than the ...........
    Merry Christmas to everyone
