With regards to those wheels... I think they are genuine... though I've never seen them on an A4. I've seen those wheels before on an Allroad and an A6 down the road from me.

Rick > thanks for your replies, I didn't think the mileage was too bad Thanks for changing the title too B)

The Hedge > I think the more sensible option will be an A4, for carrying passengers etc.

zeratul > thanks for the input, I think I may have to wait until September anyway as that is when my payrise is due. It will give me more time to save more for my deposit too. I would be looking at a manual - have never driven one before and imho it would take the fun out of it a bit.

I'm not too bothered about speed. I would worry about insuring the car if I went for a massive engine, as well as fuel economy. Again, wheels don't bother me that much as long as they work and look ok! Colour is more important to me (I'm such a girl!)

My friend thinks that I'd be making a mistake going for the soft top version, does anyone agree? He says its not as safe, worse handling, less secure... I think they look nicer.

I can't decide between the 2 cars, I think I might have to test drive them both

    Hi,

    First of all...

Your friend states the soft top is not as safe...

Are you referring to the A4 or TT...??

Both cars are pretty safe hard top or soft top..

    Audi A4 - Cab Crash Test.. 30mph or 40mph.

    A4 Saloon..

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CIRDUVXLJBs

As you can see from the damage... very much the same..

The cabin on both cars is not affected..

    Worse handling, - A4 ?
There is not much in it on a track, the saloon will be a little sharper..

But from the type of driving you will be doing its not going to make any difference..

    Less secure - A4 ?

    They are the same...

The common thief does not bother trying to get into a soft top via the roof...

A smashed window is the more preferred route i would guess!

In regards to the security on the car... they are the same... either one is as good..

    Cheers

    Rick

September Thats a good thing... it will give you a chance to keep an eye on the prices and specs that are around. It took me 6 months to find the exact spec in the car that I wanted, at the right price anyway.

The A4 Cab has to be reinforced structurally to accommodate the roof part being removed - so I would say that it would be more solid in a colision compaired to a saloon. 3 weeks ago I was just unfortunate to have a peugeot 106 run into the back of me whilst I was waiting in traffic... the 106 was written off by his insurance, as the front was damaged so much - the rear bumper just had some grazes on it and a bit of trim popped out, with a slight dent in the spare housing underneath.

Some cabriolets are prone to steering column shake and rattles but the A4 has proven to be one of the better build quality compaired to general family cabriolets or even BMWs or a Merc.

i would take time to find out about the options available and the trim levels of the cabs. im in the market for one and have realised that there really are loads of models out there that are so different due to the myriad of options.

finding the correct model in the correct colour combinations with the right toys has proved a very time consuming hobby. (and my GF is fed up with me showing her pictures of a4 cabs lol)

..oh, another point, i dont believe that a4 cab you linked is actually a sport model. i think its a base model. the seats are not the sport versions, and my understanding it that the 4 spoke steering wheel only comes on the base model. the sport and s-line have the 3 spoke.

however, it could have been special order i guess....

Had both, bought for my other half. 2001 TT180 Roadster first followed by a 2002 A4 3Ltr Cabriolet.

Like chalk and cheese as you would expect. TT great fun round the corners, 180 engine is plenty fast enough. Faults - instrument pod has been mentioned. Haldex four wheel drive system isn't too robust.

A4 much more relaxed. This is the one we still have now. Bought mainly because two seats is inconvenient despite having two cars in the family. Best looking four seater cabriolet in my opinion and have had no problems at all with it. A lot heavier though and not really made for blasting along the A roads

Maybe you should have both get one of them for 2 or 3 years then try the other.

As regards the mileage - should you go for the a4 cab - 72k is nothing! When I bought my 1.8T A it had 130k on it, but I was happy with the paperwork, the car drives like new and remember...it's an Audi

I think he is referring to soft tops in general. He used to have an S4 and he loved it (and misses it) but I think his top-down experience is based on a 206cc - and I know Pugs are pretty ****. My cousin had all sorts of problems with hers. I thought they were pretty at first but I had a 306 for 4 years and had quite a few problems.

Thanks for the evidence though, good to know

Oh and I really want one now! How am I supposed to wait until September?

Do you think going for a test drive will calm me down or make me more excited?
