another problem!!!!!! steering

now i've got another problem, just when i thought its all good!!!
driving home from work earlier on and started to hear noise from steering, its a really load whining noise, so i called RAC who were there within 18 minutes,
he topped up steering fluid and when i turned wheel it seems to be leaking from underneath the car on both sides (more on right), now he thinks its possible steering rack leaking,

has anyone else had similar issues? car is a 2000 w golf gt tdi 115 5 dr 6 speed,

If it is coming from both sides I would say it is coming out of the rack boots so that is a failed rack. The hose and fittings can leak but they are on the cars left.

if it is a failed rack (i hope not) how much do you think it will cost to resolve???

It depends on where you buy it. I prefer to use genuine racks which are around £430 for an exchange unit with a two year guarantee.
