    Hi,

My airbag light is illuminated in the instrument cluster. I've just read the fault-codes using VAG-Com:

    VAG-COM Version: Release 311.2-N
    Control Module Part Number: 8E0 959 655
    Component and/or Version: Airbag 8.4E 3001
    Software Coding: 0010602
    Work Shop Code: WSC 63351
    2 Faults Found:
01217 - Side Airbag Igniter: Driver Side (N199)
    001 - Upper Limit Exceeded
    00532 - Supply Voltage B+
    002 - Lower Limit Exceeded - Intermittent
When it says "Side Airbag Igniter: Driver Side (N199)" is it talking about the airbag in the side of the seat or the airbag in the head-lining?

Does anybody have experience with airbags.. I don't really know what to do beyond checking the cables are correctly connected (whilst the battery is disconnected, obviously!) or replacing the entire unit (£££!)

I have heard that the Audi airbag controllers will permanently remember that the airbags have been triggered in the event of a serious crash (that's a requirement of the SRS specification).

My car was CAT-D repaired in 2005, so it's quite possible it was in a nasty scrape. Is it possible I'll need to get my Airbag module wiped? (there are companies that can do that, meaning you don't have to buy a new one from Audi).

Any thoughts / advice much appreciated.

    Al.

When it says "Side Airbag Igniter: Driver Side (N199)" is it talking about the airbag in the side of the seat or the airbag in the head-lining? No,n199 is the crash sensor for the side airbag,it is behind the trim on the B pillar just beside the seat belt

    Thanks.

Can the igniter be replaced separately or is it part of the airbag?

I had an Airbag light with intermittent fault code a year ago and I cleared it, hasn't come back.

I would clear it once and if it comes on again then take it further. I was told by someone that they sometimes read intermittent faulty when not. if it won't clear then you will have to take it further

Thanks, I did clear the codes with Vag Com, but the light came back on straight-away next time I started the car

Some of the companies that re-set airbag controllers (one of which advertises on this forum) say: "If your airbag controller shows Crash Data" that they can re-set it.

Looking at the errors I found with VAG-Com (at the top of this thread) I don;t have crash data do I?

    Thanks
    Al.

I would say if you had crash data then the light would of always been on, you say it has only come on recently, right?
