    Hi,

The alarm on my B5 went off at an unearthly hour this morning.

There wasn't an obvious cause but as it went off about three times, for the sake of our neighbours I had to leave it unlocked.

This morning I investigated further, and the only thing I found was the Fuel flap was open. given the ever increasing cost of Diesel, I guess someone may have tried to steal mine !!

They didn't get any as it was still where I left it, about half a tank full.

My question is; Is the Fuel Flap part of the Alarm System ?

I shut it and checked all the doors bonnet and boot were shut as well, and it seems to be OK now

    Regards
    Claranet

    Hi there

Just had a similar problem with my estate (its under a 2nd hand VAG warranty) and it was discovered to be a corroded conection that went through the passenger footwell.

If you look through the postings here water ingress seems to be a bit of a Passat thing and apparently that was what had led to the corrosion on mine. Initially they weren't going to do it under warranty - but a few well chosen words in the showroom within earshot of new car customers soon had that sorted.

    Hope this helps !!

    Thanks V6al,

I will check mine out tomorrow. In cold weather overnight and the car is not driven during the day, the windscreen mists up big time. So I will have a good look in the passenger footwell. I will check both the front AND the rear footwells; I have not felt any dampness in the carpets though. I hope that I don't have a leak anywhere on my old cars in the past this has led to corrosion of the floorpan and subsequent MOT failure and henceforth to the crusher !! My B5 is an 03 model and I am sure has plenty of years to go before that happens !!!

    Regards
