In the last few weeks whenever I first start my car in the mornings I get rattling noise and vibration coming from the engine it goes away after 5-8 seconds. Never had it before but seem to happen nearly every time I start the car in the mornings or when its cold. Anyone had a similar experience? is it anything to worry about

    cheers

possibly the starter motor hanging on a bit, or alternator clutch(if it has one) coming in.
can only suggest that you have someone start it up while you are under the bonnet to try and
pinpoint which area it's coming from,it could be nothing more than a loose clip, bonnet hinge, engine cover etc, though would suggest you take the cover off before you start so you can actually see the engine.
    good luck,
    stewy.

    HI,
Don't want to be the bringer of bad news but I had a similar happening at about the same mileage on a 1.4FSI it was the cat coming loose in the housing. Lucky that it was still under warranty at the time. Costs about £600.00 at a VW agents.

    Cheers

    normclarke.

if that is the case then I'm screwed, its out of warranty and cant afford that at all. I had a toyota yaris for 6 years before this golf and never had anything go wrong with it. Will try what stewy suggested before I take it to my local garage for check up.

    cheers for the help lads.

if it is just the cat rattling for a few seconds don't worry about it,who needs them anyway?
obviously if it was under warranty you would get it fixed, but it's not absolutely neccessary.
if it was blocked, well yes that's a different matter.
by the way, how long is it since the oil was changed?
perhaps it's just taking a while to get up to the top end and needs changing?
    good luck,
    stewy.

The oil was last changed at the last Long Life (2yrs) service August 2006 car has done 7k miles since so the service is not due untill next august. However the service light has already been coming up see: https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...ad.php?t=31140 and after speaking to the ******** they said I should ignore the light as the service is not yet due. Might just get that changed anyway, Btw is it essential/highly recommended to use the genuine VW Oil?

    Hi,
I was lucky in my case as the dealer was on the ball and the cat was replaced under warranty. I still believe that they damaged the second lambda sensor, as this has recently failed, when carrying out the repair. Just shows you can't win all the time. I'm desparately trying to find a supplier of this sensor at a realistic price as the quote for the part is £300.00. Any offers?

    Cheers,

    normclarke.
