    Hi,

I am considering buying a 2004 04 plate Fabia with 92k miles. It has a fsh but no record of a cambelt change. The owner says that the handbook states it is not due until 100k miles but i have a feeling it should be less than that.

Does anyone know the correct interval?

    Thanks

60k miles or 4 years, whichever comes first.

So should have been done at 60K including tensioners and rollers. Some folks also replace the waterpump too.

The owner is looking at the interval for petrol engines. If it has not failed at 92K on the original it is nothing short of a miracle.

Thanks for the advice. I thought she had got it wrong but she was quite convincing! We decided not to buy this car in the end as cambelt, tax & MOT just around the corner. Went like s*** off a shovel though. Pulled like a train in all 6 gears! Will be looking out for another better example. Cheers.

They are the best supermini that VAG have ever built, bar none. The build quality puts anything that comes out of the other VAG plants to shame.

Maybe still worth considering providing they knock £500 off the price so you can get the job done properly.

Better that way than buying one where the belt was changed by an unknown source, allegedly. I had a belt snap after the cowboy garage fitted the belt in the wrong rotation, only lasted 22K then snapped causing £600 of damage.

A belt breaking on a PD engine would cost a fortune!

At 92K I would probably change the waterpump too.
