    Hi,

I have the exact same car- 2003 A4 Avant tdi SE- all my door lights plus boot light work ok.

Sounds like a fuse or relay problem.....

any one know what fuse and where it is?

i was changing a bulb in my drivers door, and somehow it shorted and im not sure what fuse or where it is to replace it.
i looked in the fuse panel, but all i could see was numbers 22 and 23, drivers door and passengers door, but doesnt say what the fuse is for exactly.
all the other doors work, but not the drivers door. that is what makes me think there is a fuse for each door. number 24 fuse is for central electrics unit for conveinience unit but i couldnt get what that was for.

    thanks

    UPDATE:

i took my car into audi today, but they didn't really have any idea. they wanted £114 to do diagnostics on the car, to which i said no. ill probably do some research online about it and then if I'm not successful, then ill take it to my local auto electrician to see if he can fix it. I've used him in the past and been happy with the results. (for a different car)

anyone had any ideas? they said it could be due to the convenience unit, or a faulty wire between door and car, but i havent checked that as yet. since it basically shorted when i removed the bulb, i expected it to be a fuse. not so simple it seems..... im really thinking about removing the door trim, even just to have a check for faulty wiring, since my tweeters in the door are also crackling, and the problem with water in the battery compartment.

There wont be a fuse for each door light.

    Does your interior light work?

Are you 100% sure your car has these lights? Spec's vary wildly over the years, many cars just had red reflectors in the doors. Take them out to make sure they contain properly wired bulbs.

Failing that, go through the fusebox and check each one is OK. Its not always clear or obvious which fuses feed exactly which components.

Its a fairly common problem for wiring to break down in the rubber boots that go between the door and the body of the car.

    hi

    thanks for the reply.

yes i definitely have the lights. all other doors have them and are turned on when the door opens, as well as footwell lights. the interior lights all work ok, and on opening the drivers door, the interior front and back lights go on, the drivers footwell light, but the 2 on the door, the red light at the back and white light on the bottom (puddle light?) do not illuminate. i was changing a bulb over, and used a metal screwdriver and must have shorted them out somehow. stupid mistake i know, but i cant seem to fix it. i tried replacing the bulbs but to no avail.

i was a bit confused to say the least on trying to find a fuse. if these door courtesy lights are in fact part of the convenience unit, then i dont know why the drivers door lights no longer work but the other doors are ok.

the tail light on the boot red one side white the other doesnt work, but thats because i think i have a blown bulb. i havent tried that as yet, but i assume thats part of the same wiring circuit.
