Starting problems

I have a mrk3 golf GTI, on a N reg. The problem is it will start,idle for 2 or 3 seconds, then cut out. I have checked the fuel pump and the relay all working. My friend at the local VW garage has reset the key and checked the system with the mobile diagnostic unit, but no faults found. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?

Just a guess, the immobiliser?

did you check you alternator if it is charging, spark plugs are in good shape.
electrical fault can be tricky

The alarm and imobiliser have all been checked!! The only thing that i could think off is the fuel cut of crash switch!! It's now driving me crazy.
The spark at the HT is very good, and both the fuel and spark stop at the same time when the car cuts out!!!
