Hi all, my first post on this site so hopefully you guys may help.

Im used to my injection modern motors not carbed etc.

I have a '91 1.3 Ryder....Rock on! Brought this for work as iv just done 150miles to 1/4 tank as oppose to my other car (145) which does 240miles to a tank.

Gradually over the past week the car has been struggling to idle and progressivly got worse until its at the stage now where EVERYTIME i push the clutch in and leave the engine to free run it just stalls, sometimes maybe stuggles for a tiny bit but still stalls. Iv had it apart breifly and ran some carb cleaner through her etc etc but still no joy. Its getting annoying now as i keep trying to keep the engine alive at the lights as im stopping with left foot braking and gets a bit dangerous sometimes lol as if i just let it stall all the time its flattens the battery from restarting all the time.

Is there any known common problems with these carbs etc? the plugs etc have been changed as it had a service about 200 miles ago but nothing touched on the inlet.

    Cheers.

Well, im going to try the fuel filter, if not that then i will do the inlet manifold...as i had this off at the weekend yet it was doing it before i took it all apart but just not as bad. if not that, then i will have to strip the carb down....fun!

    when you tookthe manifold off
a.. did you turn it upside down with the carb on
b.. did you reconnect the wire (think it a black one if your carb is a p 2e3) that goes to the idle cut off valve/seloniod at the bck of the carb

Yes, when we took the head of we cheated and just un bolted the inlet manifold and pulled that away and acutally held it up in a vertical position. Everything was put back together in the correct way tho, all wires are where they should be.

if the carb was turned upside down the debris in the float chamber could get into the main jet,one way of cleaning the carb is carb cleaner but when i used to do it i took the air filter off,the whole unit, rev the engine quite high and put the palm of you hand over the carb as if you were starving it of air, this sometimes pulls any muck thru the jets,do it a few times see if it idles any better

the selonoid at the back, altho you wired it correct still can be faulty, switch ign on and disconect the wire, then listen carefuly as you touch the wire back on to the selonoid and you should hear it clicking

Just cleaned it all down, whilst still on the car tho. Loads of carb cleaner and took one of the jets which i could out and gave that a good clean.
    Still no joy.

Dont pose you have any pictures of this wire you are on about? Theres the same carb on ebay for £15.....im really tempted to just get that but its more than likely something really bludy simple.
