    Hi all,

I was after some advise if possible. I have a 2000 golf tdi (90) which i bought a year ago. During this year i have changed CV joint, Wishbone bushes, battery and may have to soon change the MAF.

Yesterday i was looking at the service history book which showed something alarming which i must have overlooked when buying the car. On the front page of the service history book it shows the first service dated 1998! how can it be 1998 when the car is a 2000 model? This is leading me to believe that i have been sold a car with false service history.

What would you members advise i do?

If you bought it from a dealer/trader you should approach them. Then get onto trading standards. If you bought it privately I'm not sure there's much you can do as it's your word against theirs.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Unfortunately i bought the car privately from a chap in blackburn (through ebay). The things im concerned about are things like the cambelt which state in the service history that it was changed but now can not rely on that. The cars now done just under 100,000 miles!

Yeah thats a worry. If it was me I'd be tempted to get it done but its a bit of an expensive one. If it's a 2000 then it should be due a belt change at every 4 years anyway. (If it's a '98 then defo!) I reckon I would ring the garage that 'apparently' serviced the car. Might be an innocent mistake.

If you have the service book, I assume it has VW stamps in it and dates, then give the dealer or dealers a call that are showing to of serviced it. If it's true then they will be able to tell you what was done...

I think that will be best. I will ring the ******* tomorrow and find out exactly what is going on. The service history definately looks dodgy! Are there no honest people left in this world????
