    Hi There

I have a lovely blue MK 4, R reg, and lately i have to keep topping up with coolant once every three weeks or month etc and also noticed it may have mixed with the engine oil on the filler cap, but the the dipstick is clear and the performance is ok, also there is no smoke coming out the exhaust and it has never over heated, the temprture is a little under normal, but never over, other than that its fine, no problems just slight coolant loss and mixture in oil i think?

    Anyone got any advice please?

This is 'raw' mechanics as I like to call it, not something I'm expert on, but coolant mixing with oil is NEVER good, I would strongly advise you seek professional assistance immediatley.

Do you do lots of small trips? small enough so that the engine does not reach the correct temp?

What is the engine? Golf 4's are prone to leaking radiators and 1.6 petrol engines (AKL code) are prone to mayonnaise formation in the oil filler cap and this is quite normal and nothing to worry about. I have seen more people than I can remember change head gaskets on AKL and AEH engines for this only for it to form again although the AKL is prone to cracking its block but if this happens, you aren’t left wondering if there is a fault, it is quite obvious!
