    Hi All,

I am looking for some advice for my father. He has an 03 Passat TDI 130bhp. It has a n oil leak and from what the local garage has said it is in the turbo. Now if you put the foot down the is a large amount of smoke from the exhaust. So i assume the diags are right from the garage. The garage was a bit sketchy on the repair and would not quote a price.

Now does my father just need to change a new seal in the turbo or does he require a new turbo. If he needs a new one where is the best place to get one?

Or are there any other suggestion?

    Cheers

I am lead to believe the leak is from a seal or bearing in the turbo. The smoke is the dark colour that comes with burning oil.

    Cheers

It would help to know how the garage have diagnosed an oil seal failure on the turbo. If you can find out what the symptoms are and post it on here there are some very knowledgeable people on here who could help.

There are quite a lot of threads on here about oil leaks from the turbo. Its quite common for there to be some oil in the pipes going to the intercooler. This tends to leak out from beneath the intercooler where the join is in the pipes.

If the seal are leaking badly the symptoms can be white smoke from the exhaust if its leaking on the exhaust (turbine) side of the turbo. If its the intake (compressor) side, A LOT of blue black smoke from the exhaust and the engine running rough. and worst case not stopping and grenading its self as it sucks oil through the seals and runs on that
