What is included in full service?

Hi Folks again for some stupid questions.

I just wanted to know what is included in a Full Service of VW car dealer or major repair workshops?

I got different quotes ranging 80 to 265 for full service (highest one is VW dealer). My car is over 71K miles old and I am not sure about the previous service history. Today I got my car serviced from Bosch Service Centre for 182 pounds. They did CV boot work as well and charged me total 250 pounds (expensive?)

When i checked the invoice there was no plugs sparks listed in parts prices? neither the brakes pads etc.

Following parts were included in the invoice:

CV Boot, Oil filter, Air filter, Fuel filter, Pollen filter, Screenwash, Engine flush and semi-syentheic oil.

Does that mean these are not included in full service? (previously i had old Vectra and always used small local garrage for full service and they did all these stuff for very reasonable price).

Next service due is one year or 10,000 miles on the service book.

The guy aslo suggested to change Cam-belt because it is nearing 80,000 miles. Should i change now or wait?

Please advise.

If there is no spark plugs on the invoice then you would think they havent changed them!
I would think that is included in a major service around that mileage
But £250 for that, £182 for the service is bad enough but then he charged your £72 for a CV boot, you could get a whole new driveshaft for that!
I would get the cambelt changed soonish becasue if that goes your looking at a new engine, and that wont be cheap! Phone around get a few quotes, and always use the advice people give you, word of mouth is the best type of advertisement

I am thinking to change cam-belt next month. I have used all my budget now

it is 2.0 SE TDI 140 BHP diesal - 55 reg

Diesels dont have spark plugs so they wont have been changed.

Have you got your Passat manual - that'll outline what gets done at each service.

I'd consider finding a VW specialist to service your Passat too as they know what to make sure gets serviced.

That sounds about as full as service as you'll get for a diesel engine. You probably won't need the filters changed every service, so the next 10,000 mile service should just be an oil change (unless you get the timing belt done at the same time).

You wouldn't really call brake pads a service item, since they don't depend on time or distance - they are replaced when they wear out.

See how Novice i am in this game dont even now Diesel Engine is different than petrol !!!

I think now i should concentrate on cambelt in order to get full piece of mind.

One general question about Turbo Injection.

What is this? and how it is different than other type of engine? I mean every one says nice TI enegine but what actually it does. Only difference i feel when I put the foot down that I get the Push feeling (like Reeta ride does in Alton Tower). Is that what it suppose to do?

PS- by the way I am not feeling the Push now after I have done the service, Do u think I am used to it and dont feel any difference or something wrong after service?.

Turbo injection is just how the make of the car words its, it just means that the engine is turbo'd and is direct injection (dont quote me on the second bit but im pretty sure thats what it means)

A petrol and diesel are different becasue a petrol runs on Spark Ignition, which relys on a spark plug to produce a spark to get the power stroke.

A diesel runs on what is called Combustion Ignition, so the engine compresses the air so highly, on the power stroke the fuel is injected, it ignites straight away, meaning no spark plugs will have been changed on your service. This is why diesels have much higher compression ratios than petrols.

The pull that you feel in the car, is the turbo kicking in more air. A turbo is a way of ramming in as much air as possible. But they only cut in at a certain RPM, when the exhaust gases are powerful enough. You prob are just used to it if you dont really feel it any more, or as much! Dont know what they could have done if it was just a standard service.
