I don't have recall number car goes in Friday they did not give reason for this.

I was thinking maybe it was to do with some problems some of the bloggers have reported about with notchy 1-2 nd gear changes this only a guess, why would they start a recall with oil it seems strange.Does this look like problems in the very near future with the gearbox (I hope this is not the case).

hi. when you take the car in ask dealer wot the recall is for and ask for a copy off the job invoice. i always get a copy when any wty work done as a record for my self .

My car has the 5 speed box

Hi It is not just the Passat, the recall is for the GOLF,TOURAN,and T5,it would seem there is something with the gear oil and if it is not change then it can result in something going wrong with 1-2 gear

That is what I thought was the reason the only thing is my car has done over
60,000 miles so if it was going to damage it should have done so,or I going
to see failure in the not do distant future and VW saying sorry nothing to with
our oil it was perfect in the first place we just recalled it because some chap
thought it was good idea at the time,here comes more problems I think what
A company they have become.I have bought VW Audi products for the last
30 years and they seem to be getting worse on quality not better (bean counters again to blame).

VW are changing the type of gearbox oil. I beleive they are going back to a mineral oil not a fully synthetic. I understand it to be down to matters of longevity for the box.
