Hi, I have a mk3 golf 1996 with 4 electric windows. The drivers side and both rear windows don't work but the front passenger side works fine?! When I press the drivers side or rear window switches the interior light dims slightly.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Edit:

I should have added that when you press the switch which is supposed to control the front passenger side window from the drivers side handle it does not operate the passenger side window. Even though the passenger side window works fine from its own switch!

Does this indicate some kind of wiring or relay issue rather than a problem with the motors??

HI It would appear you have a fault with the motors for all 3 windows

    Hi,
it could be that the wiring loom from the 'a' pillar and 'b' pillars on each door is damaged, also maybe faulty switch, relay or blown fuse .

(When I press the drivers side or rear window switches the interior light dims slightly.) when you say this it means there is some kind of response, therefore i dont think it has anything to do with the switch or the fuses

Hi, if its a wiring/connection problem in the drivers side pillar would that affect the function of both rear windows too?

I think the switches are all OK because it doesn't seem probable that all switches would fail including the dash ones and there does seem to be a response in that the dome light dims when the switches are pressed.

Guess I need to check the pillar wiring!

    Thanks.

Hi, I'm new to this, but I had a similar problem on my mk3 cabriolet.
The garage looked into it and couldn't find a problem, but when they cleaned out the drivers side door lock mechanism, all switches and windows worked. Only the drivers window did before.
Bizarre, but might be worth trying
