    Hi

I have A4 2.5Tdi and I have noticed that when accelerating ( not hard) that I get a whooshing/whistleing noise. It happens around 2/2.5RPM. I dont think it is a gearbox whine could it be anything else? I thnk though that my clutch may be on its last legs could it be anything to do with that? Cheers Len

hi , im new here but seen your thread, I have a passat 130 , when i got it i used to get a hissing noise, but garage said it was noisy turbo ..but last year it got louder turned out it was my intercooler i was mad as warranty had expired but volkswagen paid half as i had complained earlier, I would check all your intercooler pipes first as i had 2 of them go while under warranty,
hope im wrong and its a simple thing

sounds like a leak from the fresh air side of the turbo, either from turbo to intercooler or intercooler to inlet manifold

check hoses are fully fitted, and not split. If you have a leak you will be loosing a lot of power

Quick update, there is some fluid leaking from the engine and Ive collected some and it smells like diesel and is greeny blue in colour which I suppose would support being an intercooler pipe. The Audi specialist said that is what it is likely to be and hes gonna fix it for me tomorrow. I shall let you know how it goes. Thanks

Well I have the same "issue", but I have no loss of power at all - my MPG is around 45 to 50 on average. And I don't have a leak - that I can see anyway! But I can hear mine at very low revs, moving from stationery to around 20 mph I guess, then I can't hear it anymore. Does this mean something different or do I need to check pipes etc. I'm not experienced in the engine bay - what do I need to check for?

    Regards.

It turned out that it was one of the seals on the intercooler. And for the genuine Audi part it was £250. Mine made a noise when i accelerated hard or revved it hard in neutral.
