I have a 2000 A4 Avant (RHD) and water has started to build up in my right rear footwell and to a lesser extent in my right front (drivers) footwell. I thought I had fixed the problem but after some more heavy rain it's back.

I've searched already and have done the following:

    - Checked all four sunroof drains. They all flow fine.
    - Unblocked the two drain holes in the battery compartment. Originally there was some blockage.
    - Checked that the housing/guttering for the aircon intake was correctly assembled. Originally the small gutter was partially blocked.

After I found more water today I re-checked all three and they're fine.

Can anyone suggest what I could have missed or other areas where I should look.

sealer from the inner wings near the a pillar breaks away and also the only real way to test for water leak is to remove the interior and spray the car with a water hose whilst looking inside for the leak.Check also the windscreen bonding

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll test it on a dry afternoon to see if I can cause the problem via a specific area. If I'm lucky I'll have a dry car and dry roads this evening.

One thing that is concerning me slightly is that the latches on the passenger side of the scuttle tray are not in the best of nick. The plastic screws are damaged/softened so it's very difficult to get a very good seal. Perhaps it's just allowing too much water through between it and the bottom of the window.

I had a similar problem with an 02 Passat. Turned out to be an endemic fault with the seal around the pollen filter housing. Set the alarm off when it rained sometimes.

the problem can also be blocked water run off's under the bonnet. it happened to mine when dead leaf matter and other crap collected around the battery tray(and the opposite side of the engine bay). The dead stuff blocks a small hole that drains excess windscreen water away, the water backs up, like a dam, and runs into the foot well through a small vent. took me ages to find.

    Yup, me too.

Thank you to everyone. I have just cleared the hole under the battery, didn't want to take it out as I have lost the code to my Avant Tdi 2001 shortly after I bought it in nov 2001 from new so totally my fault.

I used hot water and some washing up liquid and a gentle poke around with a wire coathanget and now it dtains like a 'gooden'.

The water was appearing mainly in the rear nearside footwell and at one point makin the central locking go wild, door locking and unlocking and the boot opening.

Just got to vacuum out the water and hope the system dries out soon. A coachbuild said tha usually the electronics dry out ok.

Thank you all for your posts

    Richard

    For future reference.

If its the original radio in the car, no code is needed. Its grabs the code from the ECU.
