starter motor problem

hi. can anyone help ! IT's a 18 t bora, jumped in the car a few nights ago, turned the key to fire it up, but stupidly the car was in gear with the handbrake on, it momentarly tried to move forward obviously , on retrying to start the car again, out of gear this time! nothing . checked all fuses in the car , checked fuses on the battery , all ok. starter isn't engaged. What have i done !!!!!

at a guess the starter relay may have fried

nick, when you say that you got "nothing" when trying to restart, did you have dash lamps and nothing on the starter, or absolutely nothing,as in no dash lamps?

hi , thanks for your reply. dash board lights are all on as normal, just no response when the key is turned to start position !

ok had a look at haynes manual for wiring diagrams

from what i can make out it sounds like there is a relay in the starter itself
marked up as an M on the bottom of the pic


will delete the pic in a couple of days as not to upset haynes
