Hi, I'm a newbie to the site which by the way is superb.
I drive a Passat Tdi 130 2001 avant. my problem is the alarm keeps going off for no apparent reason! even if the doors are unlocked it can go off!
Some times it will stop on its own. other times you have to disable it with the key fob, which has a new battery in.
Any advice would be appreciated as its doing my head in now and the neighbours Cheers in advance.

Check the passenger foot well and rear passenger foot wells for any dampness or water. Lift up the front passenger foot well carpet and check underneath and in the ccu box. Check up behind the glove box and the wiring loom and connectors behind the trim on the left hand side of the passenger foot well for any dampness.

Random electrics are quite often because of a water leak from the pollen filter. This gets on the wiring loom and into the ccu unit, and causes all kinds of randomness in the electrics. Mine was the same as yours, Alarm going off at random intervals for seemingly no reason.

With diagnostic equipment you can find out what has activated the alarm, the last 4 times,if you get a reading of 1 1 1 1 tells you it has been the tailgate contact switch which has activated the alarm 4 times, if you get a reading 1 1 1 2 then it has been activated 3 times by the tailgate switch and the last activation was by the rear right rotary latch switch,When you have a reading like this you can go right to the source of the problem.Hope i have made myself clear?

Just been checking around the car again, i checked the boot lid contacts and one of the saloon door style metal contacts was stuck back, so i've freed them both off and lubricated them, hopefully this could be my problem as the usual suspect of the water leak problem doesn't seem to be my problem as every where appears dry! fingers crossed
