dash computer problem

Happy weekend to one and all. 20 points for anyone who can tell me the answer to the following question. My 03 golf gttdi 130 has got a little red 2" screen in the middle of the dash. Legend has it, that this is where some magic happens and it should tell me my mpg and so on. But all this crystal box is tell ing me, is a simple red pin stripe straight down the right hand side of the screen. What kind of mystical evil could be causing this??

Do you know someone with vag com ? You could ask them to scan the instruments for you...ussually, a test off the display dots with vag com sorts it out...If its still a no go, then new instruments might be required.

Hi had the same problem resolved by disconnecting the battery for about 30 seconds then reconnecting, hey presto! display back on,
