power steering

I have a VW passat diesel estate, year summer 2004. the warranty has expired in oct 2007 and no probs with car until yesterday. The power steering is intermittent when foot is off the accelorator pedal. A bit worrying. I am going to take it back to VW edinburgh to get it checked out. Has anyone had a similar problem? Think it must be losing fluid. I hope if it proves to be serious that VW will cover as 5 months out of waranty.

Would appreciate any feedback.

Thanks m8. checked the belt which is tight and the fluid seems ok. took to local garage and they are going to try to flush out. if not could be rack or pump. Bit a bummer for a 3.5 year old car. VW wont be interested. Thanks anyway.
