Hello. I am in the middle of doing my cambelt now on my on 01 passat tdi 130 (180,000) and have just removed the radiator/front support assembly. Looking at the radiator just above the bottom radiator hose there is an electrical connection (with three spade terminals) that wasn't connected to anything! Should it be and if so what?!

Also i bought an alternator pulley because i had a slight 'chattering' noise from my engine that got worse when i turned the lights on. I assumed the extra load put on the alternator was making the alternator pulley noise. I've since checked the alternator pulley clutch and all seems fine. So i might leave it as it is for that reason and because i don't have the tool to remove pulley.

Is it possible to change the alternator pulley at a later date with the front of the intact?

Back to the subject of the chattering, i noticed that the air con compressor pumps pulley was a little 'slack' as was the idler between crank pully and aircon pulley. Is this normal? Do you think this could be the cause of the noise? Not sure if car made noise with air con on, only noticed it with lights.

The bearing of the idler didnt seem that smooth so i prised off the seals and soaked bearing in WD40, spun it, blasted it with the airline then repacked it with high melting point grease and replaced seals. It now spins more freely but is still a bit slack. Should i just replace it?

Thanks again guys

Somehow i always end up writing long posts but thank you for taking the time to read it!
